Bruxism (tooth grinding) is one of the major dental diseases – it is estimated that upto 50% of the population have signs of significant wear on their teeth. Many more people grind their teeth but do not realise they are doing so.
It usually happens during sleep - with the grinder being completely unaware! Sleeping partners may know about it (by hearing it). A dentist can easily observe the detrimental effects of tooth grinding.
Do any of these apply to you?
- Are you stressed out? This can cause tooth grinding.
- Are your teeth worn or getting shorter?
- Are your facial, neck, or shoulder muscles tense in the morning or in the afternoon?
- Do you suffer from frequent headaches?
- Are your teeth sensitive?
- Do you have clicking or sore jaw joints?
- Does it seem like your teeth are always chipping or are you regularly breaking fillings or crowns?
Night grinding and clenching of teeth is one of the top three major causes for tooth loss. Early diagnosis and prevention can save you a lot of time, trouble, and money.
